WALNUT RIDGE, AR (KAIT) – A new product that claims to eradicate mosquitoes is flying off the shelves at local stores as people hope to fight back against the large mosquito population this summer.
Only a few Region 8 stores sell the Spartan Mosquito Eradicators.
One of those stores is Farm Service in Walnut Ridge, which received its first shipment of the product in March.
“He [a distributor] said you need these because they’re awesome products,” Farm Service location manager Don Alls said. “We got a few in and didn’t know what they were going to do. Then the mosquitoes were late, so we didn’t get after it.”
But now that the mosquitoes are out in full force, Alls said customers have come from as far away as Blytheville and Cherokee Village to get a box or two of the eradicator tubes.
“We’ve probably been selling 40 to 50 a day,” Alls said. “And you use two per acre or two per lot, something like that, and it works out good.”
Customers don’t get the full effect of the product until after about 15 days, so Alls said they haven’t heard a lot of reviews yet but the Farm Service employees have already seen success using the product this season.
“The ones of us that have tried them, we just don’t have mosquitoes,” Alls said. “I mean, none.”
Each box comes with two tubes, which have a powder mix inside them.
You mix the powder with warm water and hang the tube from a tree. You want it to be a good distance from the house because mosquitoes will swarm the tube.
Once mosquitoes feed from the tube they will die.
The product is only being sold in nine states and Puerto Rico right now.
